Demeo LLP is a litigation law firm located in downtown Boston. The Firm’s attorneys provide experienced counsel to a broad range of business clients and individuals. Firm History
Demeo LLP is a law firm specializing in complex commercial litigation, white collar criminal defense and government investigations. The Firm represents local, national and multinational companies in litigation matters. Joseph L. Demeo founded the Firm in 1997 after practicing with the Boston law firm of Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., in the firm’s litigation section since 1992. There he represented a variety of business interests in complex civil litigation in state and federal court.
Mr. Demeo left Mintz Levin to build this Firm, which opened in January 1997 on Beacon Hill in Boston. The Firm has since grown to eight attorneys and continues to expand to meet client needs. In 1998, the Firm moved to historic Lewis Wharf and most recently the Firm relocated to waterfront 66 Long Wharf. In 2007, the Firm added a bankruptcy practice, which includes a Chapter 7 Trustee.

Since its inception in 1997, Demeo LLP has successfully represented hundreds of clients in state and federal courts in a variety of business litigation matters. Among the highlights are the following:
- The Firm represents the country’s largest bank in numerous commercial contract and injunction litigation cases.
- The Firm represents several healthcare companies in commercial litigation, license disputes and employment matters.
- The Firm obtained a $1.4 million judgment on behalf of a major pharmacy chain in a breach of contract action.
- The Firm obtained a temporary restraining order on behalf of a medical software company faced with licensor’s bad-faith termination of licensing agreement. The Firm then went on to win a $1.4 million award and dismissal of all counterclaims at summary judgment on behalf of its client.
- The Firm has successfully represented clients in litigation over exclusive sales distribution agreements.
- The Firm represents several publicly-traded software and technology companies with U.S. and international operations.
- The Firm provides knowledgeable and strategic advocacy in licensing, copyright and trademark cases, and has successfully sued and obtained settlements or judgments from corporate defendants in the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Israel, Nigeria, and the Ivory Coast.
- The Firm obtained an arbitration award in a copyright infringement case for $1.2 million including attorneys’ fees, interest and costs.
- The Firm successfully represented a European-based public software company in litigation in California, Florida, New York, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Alabama, and Massachusetts.
- The Firm represents a large mutual fund company in various litigation matters, including employment litigation.
- The Firm successfully represented a national banking institution in an adversary proceeding relating to alleged violations of the automatic stay and discharge statute.

- The Firm recently reached a favorable settlement with the U.S. Department of Labor on behalf of a small local business faced with a possible class action.
- The Firm successfully defeated Plaintiff’s attempts to obtain injunctive relief against the domicile of the former president of a limited liability company.

- The Firm obtained a $1.8 million award in arbitration involving claims for breach of contract, tortious interference, civil conspiracy, conversion, and violations of Chapter 93A and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
- The Firm successfully represented a major Massachusetts supermarket chain in a contract action against a franchisee.
- The Firm successfully represented a global contract services company in the enforcement of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements and in connection with trade secret claims.
- The Firm successfully represented a regional real estate development company in connection with a public bid dispute concerning a $2 million contract.
- The Firm successfully defended a British multinational metal-forming corporation in a suit brought by a Massachusetts company seeking contract damages and attempting to pierce the corporate veil.
- The Firm successfully represented a developer in an appeal to the Land Court over the rejection of a subdivision plan.
- Mr. Demeo argued for and set new precedent in Massachusetts by obtaining Massachusetts jurisdiction over a German software company.
- The Firm represented the Chapter 11 Trustee in the sale of a Newbury Street hotel.
- The Firm represents official committee of unsecured creditors and liquidating trustees in various matters, including recovery of millions of dollars through successful avoidance actions.
